How to Order Online
E-books
Several of our titles are now available as e-books. You will see e-book options if they are available for a particular book.
Our e-books are provided as Adobe Digital Editions files. These files may be read on a Mac or PC after downloading free software, and/or on a number of e-book devices, including Nook, Kobo, and Sony ereaders.
Our files are not compatible with the Kindle. However, many of our books are available on the Kindle from Amazon's website.
To accommodate different needs, we offer perpetual access to the e-book as well as short-term rental options at reduced prices.
What can I do with my e-book?
- You can read and annotate the contents of the e-book on six unique devices via a single ID.
- You may print a limited number of pages from the book. We cannot guarantee that your printer will print from the e-book file. A few customers have reported printing problems. We think their issues have something to do with low memory errors. Most customers have not reported any trouble.
- You can copy and paste text from the e-book document one page at a time. We cannot promise that you will copy perfect text out of every book. Some of our e-books are derived from scans, so OCR errors may occur in the copied text. Or the copied text may not have spaces between all the words. Please expect that copied and pasted text will require proofreading.
- The perpetual license gives you ownership of the e-book with these features indefinitely. The licenses that limit access to a specified number of days allow the same options but only for the time period chosen.
Are Stanford e-books available elsewhere?
Yes. We are continually making books available on the Amazon Kindle, various aggregators to which colleges and universities subscribe, and other partners. Our goal is to make as much of our content available digitally as possible. This process is ongoing.
Shipping Costs for Printed Books
Large format books will incur more shipping than our estimate, as will books shipped via ground freight to foreign countries. The standard ground cost is $5.00 for the first book domestic, with an additional $1.00 for each additional book. For each book to be shipped by air or to a foreign destination, the shipping fee is $9.50, with an additional $5.00 for each additional book.

Use the search box in the upper right corner of the screen, or the 'Browse our Books' link in the upper left to view the information page for the book or books that interest you.

Our shopping cart is managed by our distributor, University of Chicago Press. You may notice that the URL for the shopping cart begins with www.press.uchicago.edu, rather than www.sup.org. This is normal.
Next Steps
Fill in quantities and click "Add to Cart". If you are ready to purchase, then follow the instructions on the shopping cart screen to continue your order. You will need to provide an email address, shipping and billing address, and a valid Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express card.
Your items will only remain in your shopping cart during your current browsing session. They will need to be added again if you restart your browser or move to a different browser.
After all of your payment information has been entered, you will need to review and confirm your order. An automatic confirmation email will be sent to the address you provide.
